Providing Valuable Insights for University Partners
BOSR helps units across the university answer important questions about what Nebraska faculty, staff, students, and alumni are doing and thinking about all things Nebraska. Information from these data collections help departments, centers, and units at UNL gather information to improve processes, understand the current state of business, and help departments gather data for Academic Program Reviews.
Future of Work Study
Background: Learning from the past two years, many universities and private businesses have developed policies for staff members to work in a flexible way.
BOSR’s Role: BOSR was commissioned by the UNL Chancellor’s Task Force to assist with questionnaire development, web survey programming, and data collection to evaluate attitudes toward remote work and other work-related issues.
Data in Action: The data from this survey will help campus leadership understand how COVID-era practices may apply to future work settings, policies and job satisfaction at UNL.
Career Services First Destination Survey
Background: Since 2012, BOSR has partnered with UNL Career Services to interview UNL alumni after graduation to learn about their post-graduation plans and salary, including employment, military service, continuing education, or volunteering plans.
BOSR’s Role: BOSR interviewers call recent graduates who haven’t participated in a web survey administration to gather information about their post-graduation plans and outcomes.
Data in Action: This information allows Career Services and future and current students to understand what UNL graduates do when they finish their degree.
State of Sustainability and Resilience Survey
Background: The State of Sustainability and Resilience Survey — commissioned by the Chancellor’s Environment, Sustainability and Resilience Commission (CESRC) — was developed to provide a baseline understanding of the perceptions that faculty, staff, and students have about the objectives outlined in the 2020 Environment, Sustainability and Resilience Master Plan.
BOSR’s Role: 823 students, staff, faculty, and administrators participated in a BOSR administered web survey regarding their attitudes towards the aspirational goals detailed in the plan.
Data in Action: The data from this survey will be used to understand whether UNL is making progress toward the goals put forth in the CESRC Master Plan.
Department Major and Alumni Surveys for Academic Program Reviews
Background: Departments often need to gather information from their current faculty, students, or alumni for Academic Program Reviews or other departmental evaluations. This year, the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering asked BOSR to survey alumni about their experiences.
BOSR’s Role: BOSR conducts surveys, focus groups, and interviews with alumni and current students. BOSR also analyzes these quantitative and qualitative data sets and creates reports to support the department’s goal of having an outside evaluator.
Data in Action: Surveys of these groups allow departments to have an outside evaluator to provide insights into how student experiences at UNL allowed them to meet departmental educational goals and understand their career trajectory since graduation.
